How to list your business on List It Local SA

Get your business in front of local customers in 4 simple steps. Every advertiser is personally checked before going live, so our directory stays trusted by the community.

  1. Submit your detailsChoose your listing package, fill in your business description, contact details and location, and add your best business photos.
  2. Secure instant paymentWe only accept instant payments through PayFast: card or instant EFT. Standard EFTs that take 1 to 3 days aren't accepted, to stop fake proof-of-payment slips.
  3. Verify your identityUpload your South African ID book or smart card and a live selfie holding it. Your privacy matters: under POPIA your ID stays confidential. It is never published, sold or given to anyone else, and it is deleted 30 days after we've made a decision.
  4. Review and go live!Once your payment is confirmed and your identity checked, your listing goes live. This can take up to 2 working days. Registered businesses are usually approved fastest; unregistered businesses get a quick, friendly verification call. Bonus channel boost: we announce you on our official WhatsApp channel and send you a private WhatsApp message with your live listing link.
Instant payments only

We only accept instant payments through PayFast: card or instant EFT. If a payment fails or is cancelled before it goes through, nothing happens: just try again. If a completed payment is later reversed or charged back, the listing is removed and the contact number and email are blocked. Once a listing is approved and published, the fee is non-refundable.

How it works

How we keep scammers out

Nobody can post here themselves. Every business is checked by us before it goes live.

ID check

Every advertiser sends a photo of their SA ID or driver's licence and a selfie holding it. This proves they're a real, honest person, not a scammer. The ID is only used for our checks and is never shown on the site or shared.

Number check

We phone the number on the listing before it goes live. Your listing only ever shows a number we have spoken to.

Business proof

Registered businesses give their CIPC number. Electricians, plumbers and gas fitters show their trade registration. Property and vehicles need proof of ownership.

Photo and price check

We check that photos aren't copied from the internet, and that prices make sense. "Too good to be true" listings are turned down.

Traceable payment

Listing fees are paid through PayFast only, so every advertiser leaves a payment trail in their own name.

Report button

Every listing has a report link. A reported listing is taken down while we look into it, and confirmed scammers are blocked for good.

Not allowed on List It Local SA

  • Loans, investments, crypto and "double your money" offers
  • Job offers that ask for a fee or a "starter kit"
  • Pets and puppies sold for a deposit, sight unseen
  • Rentals without proof the advertiser owns or manages the property
  • Foreign numbers, or numbers that won't take a call

Who we are

List It Local SA was started in Durban in 2026 by a local business owner who wanted one place where South Africans could find honest local businesses, and where small businesses could be seen without big advertising costs.

It is a Digital World business. We check every advertiser ourselves, because a directory is only as good as the people in it. If something on the site isn't right, we want to hear about it.

List It Local SA is a directory: we connect you with businesses, but we don't take part in the deals you make with them. Please read our safety advice before meeting anyone.

Privacy policy

How we protect your personal information

List It Local SA is a Digital World business, based in Durban, South Africa. We follow the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). This page explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and your rights. Last updated: 31 October 2026.

What we collect

  • From businesses that list: business name, description, category, province and town; contact number, and any email, website, social page or address you choose to give; your listing photos or advert.
  • For verification: a photo of your SA ID book or smart card, and a live selfie holding it.
  • For payment: your payment reference and the confirmation from PayFast. We never see or store your card or bank details: PayFast handles those.
  • When you chat with us (Talk Buddy): your name, the number or email you give us, your listing reference if you have one, and the messages, so our admin can help you.
  • From visitors: nothing personal. We count how often a listing is looked at, using a code that changes daily and is never stored, so no visitor can be identified.

Why we collect it

  • To publish your listing so customers can find and contact you.
  • To prove that every advertiser is a real person running a real business, and to keep scammers off the site.
  • To confirm payment and keep the financial records the law requires.

Your ID and selfie

  • Used only to verify your identity, and only with your consent.
  • Stored securely, never published, sold or given to anyone else, and not sent by email.
  • Permanently deleted 30 days after your listing is approved or declined.

How long we keep the rest

  • Your listing details: while your listing is live and as long as needed to answer questions about it.
  • Payment records: 5 years, as required by South African tax law.
  • Talk Buddy chats: deleted automatically 90 days after the last message.
  • Blocked contact details (see below): until an appeal is accepted.

Blocked contact details

If a completed payment is reversed or charged back, or a listing turns out to be a scam, we remove the listing and keep its contact number and email on a private blocklist, so the same person can't list again. If you think you were blocked by mistake, WhatsApp us on 062 573 2813 and we'll look into it.

Who else handles it

Only the service providers that run the site for us: our web host, our email service (which sends us a notice of each new listing, without your ID), and PayFast for payments. They may only use it to provide that service.

Your rights

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct it, or to delete it where the law allows.
  • Withdraw your consent: we then delete your ID and selfie, and your listing can no longer be verified.
  • Complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa (inforegulator.org.za) if you're unhappy with how we handle your information.

Terms, refunds, cancellation and delivery

These terms apply to everyone who uses this website and to every business that pays to be listed. List It Local SA is a Digital World business, based in Durban, South Africa. Prices are in South African rand (ZAR). Last updated: 2 November 2026. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal information.

Terms and conditions

  • What we sell: advertising. A paid listing puts your business on this website and announces it on our WhatsApp channel. We are a directory only: we don't sell, deliver or guarantee any advertiser's goods or services.
  • Packages: Basic R50 and Featured R100 run for 30 days from the day they go live; the Business Pack is R200 a month and stays live while it is paid. A catalog of 2 to 10 listings costs the price shown when you order. Optional "design it for me" adverts are charged as shown on the order.
  • Checks: every advertiser is verified before going live (payment, SA ID with a selfie, and the business details). We may decline any listing that fails the checks or breaks these terms.
  • Not allowed: illegal goods or services, weapons, drugs, adult content, fake or copied photos, misleading prices or claims, pyramid or get-rich schemes, and anything that infringes someone else's rights.
  • Your listing, your responsibility: you confirm that your details are true and that you may use the photos and text you send. You deal with your own customers directly.
  • Removal: we may remove a listing without a refund if it turns out to be false, a scam, or against these terms, or if a payment is reversed or charged back. Its contact number and email are then blocked.
  • Using the site: don't copy listings in bulk, misuse contact details, or try to break or overload the site. Dealings between visitors and advertisers are at your own risk (see our disclaimer).
  • Law: these terms follow the laws of the Republic of South Africa, including the Consumer Protection Act and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act. We may update them; the version on this page applies to new orders.

Payment

  • We only accept instant payments through PayFast: card or instant EFT. PayFast processes the payment securely; we never see or store your card or bank details.
  • The price is set when you order and confirmed by PayFast before your listing is checked.
  • If a payment fails or is cancelled before it goes through, no money is taken and you can simply try again.

Delivery policy

  • We deliver a digital service: nothing is posted or shipped.
  • Once your payment is confirmed and your identity checked, your listing goes live on this website. A listing can take up to 2 working days to go live. Unregistered businesses first get a short verification call.
  • On the day it goes live, we announce it on the List It Local SA WhatsApp channel and send you a WhatsApp (or SMS) message with the link to your listing page.
  • If you chose "design it for me", we make your advert before the listing goes live.

Refund policy

  • Full refund if we decline your listing during verification.
  • Full refund if you cancel before your listing is published.
  • Business Pack: the month you're in is not refunded.
  • No refund if a listing is removed for breaking these terms.
  • A refund is only paid if your listing is not live yet. If your listing is live, there is no refund.
  • A refund can take up to 7 working days. It is paid back through PayFast, or to your bank account.

Cancellation policy

  • Before publishing: WhatsApp us on 062 573 2813 or email listitlocalsa@gmail.com with your reference (LIL-…), and we cancel and refund you in full.
  • Basic and Featured: once-off payments that end by themselves after 30 days. There is nothing to cancel, and nothing is charged again unless you choose to renew.
  • Business Pack: there is no automatic debit. Each month you choose to pay again; if you don't, the listing comes off the site when the paid month ends. To stop early, tell us before your next month starts.
  • You may ask us to take your listing down at any time. After publishing, this isn't refunded.

Safety and disclaimer

Please read this before you contact or meet anyone from a listing.

If you need to meet up

  • Meeting is your own choice, at your own discretion and risk
  • Meet in a busy public place in daylight, such as a shopping centre or a police station's front area
  • Take someone with you, and tell a friend or family member where you're going
  • Don't carry large amounts of cash. Use a traceable payment where you can
  • Check the item, vehicle papers or finished work before you pay
  • When a tradesperson comes to your home, confirm their name and number match the listing
  • If something doesn't feel right, walk away and report the listing

Disclaimer

  1. List It Local SA is an advertising directory only. We are not a party to any sale, service, rental or agreement between you and an advertiser.
  2. We check advertisers before listing them, but we cannot guarantee any advertiser, product, service, price or outcome.
  3. Any contact, meeting, payment or arrangement you make with an advertiser is at your own discretion and risk.
  4. To the extent the law allows, List It Local SA is not responsible for any loss, damage, injury or dispute arising from dealings between users and advertisers.
  5. Advertisers are responsible for the accuracy and legality of their listings and for how they deal with customers.
  6. Listing fees are refunded only if we decline a listing, or if it is cancelled before it is published. Once a listing is published, the fee is not refundable. Basic and Featured listings run for 30 days from the day they go live; Business Pack listings run while the monthly fee is paid.
  7. Never pay anyone in the name of List It Local SA except our official listing fees. We never collect payment for an advertiser's goods or services.
  8. Report suspicious listings to us on WhatsApp 062 573 2813 or by email to listitlocalsa@gmail.com. Report crimes to the SAPS on 10111.
